Father's Day is a celebration honoring fathers
and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of
fathers in society. Many countries celebrate it on the third Sunday of
June, though it is also celebrated widely on other days by many other
countries.

There are a range of events, which may have inspired the idea of
Father's Day. One of these was the start of the Mother's Day tradition
in the first decade of the 20th century. Another was a memorial service
held in 1908 for a large group of men, many of them fathers, who were
killed in a mining accident in Monongah, West Virginia in December 1907.
Father's Day is not a federal holiday in most countries, with exception
to Thailand because it falls on the same day as the King’s Birthday,
which is a public holiday. For other countries, Father’s Day is on a
Sunday, so public offices are closed on this day and very few
organizations are open for business. Public transit systems run to their
weekend schedules. It is important for people wanting to dine in a
restaurant on Father’s Day to think about booking in advance because
restaurants may be busier than usual, as many people take their fathers
out for a treat.
